Haiku & Senryu – For the 4th of July – One New & One Old

This second haiku is more of a senryu. It is a reprint from 2017, a time when I still occasionally employed similes and metaphors in my haiku. In the haiku form, they are traditionally frowned upon. Ideally, one is supposed to juxtapose descriptions/observations in order to pack one’s poetic punch.

I do love similes and metaphors, though. I will save them for prose and free verse and sonnets and such.
