Other Writing — It seems from my non-scientific research (mostly from counting likes and comments on Facebook) that people engage with my content in the following hierarchy: photos > miniessays > haiku > sonnets > essays > short stories. In other words, the pieces on this page require more commitment. Below is a piece that came to mind recently; check out the page for more pieces.
I was reminded of this short story recently upon hearing of a company that grew and programmed human brain cells to be able to play the video game Doom. Unsettling stuff. My story from 2006 is a little derivative and very much of its time, but I am pretty pleased with some of its creativity and parts of it might even be prescient. Here is an excerpt:
- Though the Biolog™ concept was designed for mobility, the activity levels of most Biologs™ themselves sharply decreased, as they simply chose to augment reality whenever they deemed it deficient. And the Biologs™ who had joined the Day complex had rapidly lost any interest in the real world at all, preferring their own virtual manipulations of it and the constant communication which they experienced with others. And, so, it was only logical that the next step for many was to simply leave the biology to someone else and then to abandon it altogether.
