This statue of Joseph holding Jesus’ hand was very moving to me. Getting the least attention of the Holy Family, he still seems to me such a noble figure who faithfully did what he was called to do. It is pleasant to think of him teaching the boy Jesus the craft of carpentry and taking care of him. There is a rather wonderful portrayal of him in Danny Boyle’s fanciful, gem of a movie Millions, by the way.

I find your presentation of the grotto very powerful, Neil. The decay that surrounds the statue is sad but visually beautiful in the way that you have captured it.
Thank you, Cyndi. I must give credit for the composition on number 8 with the child Christ holding his hand above the the chaotic mangle of the staircase to my brother http://aroundtheriversbend.wordpress.com/ Not surprisingly, he is a pastor.
I am curious if you know much about this statue? I’ve read that there is a statue of St Joseph somewhere in the St Louis area that has a fragment of a bone from St Joseph inside the statue. Or something similar……..would you have any information?
