This shot makes me wish I could have gotten close enough to photograph one of my favorite nest sightings last winter: a magpie nest where the birds had industriously incorporated, in true magpie fashion, the Christmas lights hanging on the branches. But as you’d also guess, magpies are not terribly tolerant of spying humans, so they weren’t about to let me get in close enough for my teeny pocket camera’s needs. Ah, well, a memory that you managed to evoke very nicely here, so thanks! 🙂

This is a sycamore tree, isn’t it? I love how spooky, spindly and sharp they look in the fall and winter.
