Spot the Leopard! – Ahem! Rosette the Jaguar! – St. Louis Zoo

I converted this picture to black and white to show just how well this camouflage works in dappled light. Most animals are color blind right? Good thing this guy was sleeping. At first I thought this was a leopard, but a volunteer corrected me and told me it was a jaguar. And the spotty things on it, on both leopards and jaguars actually, are called rosettes, which vary according to species.

Apologies for all the zoo pics recently, but I really did have a nice photographic day despite the bright sunlight.

  1. This is an amazing photo! I love how you added black and white. I especially like how the black and white plays out the shadows that are thrown on the spots, making him look even more camouflaged. I don’t usually do this, but you might wanna check out my photography site, because I have a couple photos of jaguars that are pretty similar. I think I only have about two, so comment if you wanna see more, I have a bunch. xP

    • Wow. You were right. That snarling jaguar shot is amazing! I also really like the poodle and puddle 🙂 Thanks for stopping by my blog.
