Elizabeth I in Elizabeth 2

So are you still bummed, as I am, that in 1998 the fluffy Shakespeare in Love won best picture over Elizabeth and, more criminally, Mrs. Chris Martin won best actress over Cate Blanchett. The final moments of Elizabeth are powerful and chilling.
Well, if you are still bummed, then perhaps The Golden Age will help soothe the sting. Cate Blanchett, Geoffrey Rush, Clive Owen, and Samantha Morton…it should be good. Here’s the trailer. Here’s the official site.

  1. Yes, I too, lament the poor awards choices of 1998… it being the first year of parenthood for us, Elizabeth was one of the few movies that we saw in the theatre. I couldn’t believe it lost out to that goofy other movie.
That looks like Christopher Guest over there on the right, but he looks much older than that these days, doesn’t he… I still think of him as his character in Princess Bride.
Thanks for the hot movie tip.

  2. Renae, yes, that year, as are many, was an Oscar travesty. I do not think that is Christopher Guest as his name does not appear on the IMDB page for the movie.

  3. whoa… the trailer gave me chills. i really enjoyed the first film and its relative accuracy as far as history is concerned. i guess we’ll see how this one does.

  4. Travis, to my shame, I do not know that bit of history well enough to have tested the accuracy of the first movie, but I am glad to hear that it was relatively accurate. And, yes, there are some powerful images in this trailer.
